While there are some people who do a wonderful job styling their own hair, the rest of us need to know how to find a great hair stylist to have our hair professionally done. It does not mean that you have to spend a lot of money on a stylist; all you need to find a great hair dresser.

To find a great hair stylist that is trained in styling, coloring, cutting, etc. your first stop should be at a salon. Find the kind of salon that is best for you.

There are those salons that you find basically in every community which don’t require appointments, do quick haircuts, trims, and are budget friendly. And there are other salons that are more specialized, personal, and require appointments. The prices of these salons depend on the service that is being offered.

Depending on your need, you should be able to decide on which salon is best for you. Know how to find a great hair stylist at one of these salons by either checking their work out or asking the receptionist for a recommendation. Schedule a consultation in order to decide if the stylist has the skills of what you want done with your hair. You don’t want to decide on someone cutting your hair that you have not talked to. The stylist should be able to advise you about the possibilities of your hair.

Before you decide to make a stylist your long term hair dresser, follow some of these guidelines and observe. While there, take a look at the stylist hair and see if it’s healthy or damage. Excellent stylists take care of their hair. 

• Ask the stylist if they are have experience working with your hair texture. You don’t want a professional who is only familiar with straight, silky hair working on your very coarse and curly hair.  
• Do you feel comfortable in the environment and with the stylist? If you are going be working with this stylist in this salon, then you want to make sure it feels right.  
• Know exactly what you do or don’t want and communicate that to your hair dresser. The possibilities of what can be done will be discussed, but make sure you two are on the same path.  
• Take a look at pictures of other clients if there are any. You will get a better idea of the stylist’s work by seeing his/her previous work.  
• When you visit, go in as you normally dress. That will give the professional an idea of your taste and style.  

Remember that a great hairdresser could be your best friend. Take your time to find one that is excellent at what they do and develop and relationship with them. Be realistic and understand that sometimes your stylist will know what’s best for you hair type better than you would. Work together and come up with what will make you happy and totally pleased.
